OLD BUSINESS

  • AIS- Les Schramm reported that there is nothing new.  Lake Metonga will treat for milfoil June 1 and 2. Last year’s treatment was quite successful.
  • Supporting lakes with AIS- It was decided to put our money towards educating the general population about AIS.
  • Essay Contest – Harry Resch report that there was great support to evaluate the essays.  Winners have been selected and the awards will be presented during the next month.  (Add dates and time)
  • Placemats Update – Larry Sommer presented the new placemats. 60,000 were printed for a cost of less than 5 cents per copy. They will be ready Friday 9 am at the Pioneer Express.  People who will help distribute them include John, Larry Sommer,  Lee and Vi Lamers and anyone else willing to help.
  • AIS cards – Chris Hamerla printed 1630 AIS cards showing eurasion milfoil and zebra mussels  at a cost of $150 and were available at today’s meeting.
  • FCAL Application Forms- 150 forms were printed and are available for distribution at Kentuck Days and at local lake association meetings.
  • FCAL Website- John Lyon presented news of the progress on the website.  So far it is set up as an educational website that has: DNR information, Forest County references, pictures, no personal information , meeting minutes, some info about our activities, mission statement, and lake associations.   He said people need a reason to return to the website. He will be put him on the agenda for next month to look at what he has presented so far and an opportunity for us to present suggestions.
  • Annual Newsletter – will be sent by the middle of June.  Sent out by first class mail in the past.

- Idea by Carol Tomasi for next year to have FCAL cover the cost of $200 every year for a bulk mail permit and then have that service available to the lake associations. This might encourage them to attend our meetings and join us.  The lake associations would need to cover the reduced cost of the postage for their newsletters. Les Schramm stated Lake Metonga did a mass mailing for their efforts towards forming a lake district.  It cost them15 cents a piece within Crandon and less than 18 cents for those outside the area. Carol will check with Peter Davison who works at the post office.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Letter from State Senator Holperin was sent to everyone who had signed the letter last month.
  • Stuart MacPhearson from Arbutus Lake was nominated by Roxanne Sprehe seconded by John McCulloch to be elected as a director.
  • Set Dates for Annual Meeting and Fall Forum-

Fall Forum will be September 11, 2010 at the T-Bobs.  Carol Tomasi will coordinate.  It will be held either as an open forum or have Ron or RT Krueger speak about lake dynamics and lake levels.

The annual meeting will be held at Silver Lake Inn if it is available. Jim Hausinger will look at dates in August or September.  The committee consists of Barb McGraw, Dennis Koshere (who was volunteered), and Jim Hausinger.  Quentin Velicer will look into having a speaker on cougars.

  • Membership was brought up throughout the meeting.
  • Jim Hausinger presented a letter from Bud Mixen who spoke about swimmer’s ear and a treatment called Swimmer’s Itch Guard.  Information will be available
